Chad Kawakami, associate professor at the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP), was inducted as a Fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) for his contributions to pharmacy leadership, practice, and education. The induction ceremony was held in October at the ASCP annual meeting in National Harbor, MD.
Kawakami’s responsibilities at the DKICP includes teaching Doctor of Pharmacy students in the classroom and at an acute care practice site at Pali Momi Medical Center, for which he has received teaching awards. He also serves as Brigade Deputy Commanding Officer for the 1984th United States Army Hospital. Kawakami is board certified in pharmacotherapy, with special interests in geriatrics, mental health, and military medicine. He is the recipient of an Excellence in Innovations Award from the Hawaii Pharmacists Association, and serves as the Hawaii state delegate for ASCP.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Dr. Kawakami, and a testament to his service for the profession which impacts students, the Hawaii community, and nation. It is particularly fitting that he was recognized with this honor in October, which is American Pharmacists Month,” said Rae Matsumoto, dean of the college.
