DKICP faculty and staff elected to serve on HPhA board

New HPhA board members include (seated) Corrie Sanders, Lily Van, (standing) Megan Arbles, Jarred Prudencio, Shelley Kikuchi, Christina Method Requelman, Nicole Young, Faith Hicks and Eryn Sakamoto.

Several members of the college ohana were elected to the Hawaii Pharmacists Association board of directors at the annual meeting April 20th at the Oahu Country Club in Honolulu. Instructor Faith Hicks, clinical education support specialist Christina Method Requelman, and associate professors Jarred Prudencio and Nicole Young will serve on the 2024-25 board, along with student members Tracy Pham and Ethan Butay.

Requelman and Prudencio served on last year’s board, along with associate professor Wesley Sumida, assistant professor Bryce Fukunaga and student members Ronel Quebral and Rizamari Pascua.

Presentations at this year’s meeting included:

• DKICP Dean Rae Matsumoto provided updates on college activities, changes and developments.

• Governor Josh Green and State Senator Chris Lee were presented with the HPhA Friends of Pharmacy award by HPhA president Corrie Sanders.

• Dr. Anthony Guerrero, professor and chair of the Department of Psychiatry and clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine, talked about Hawaii’s mental health landscape and the relevance for physicians and pharmacists in partnership.

• Dr. Jennifer Mbuthia of The Queen’s Health System covered immunization updates, including new products and new recommendations.

• Jarred Prudencio presented a CE on incretin-based medication therapy.

• Corrie Sanders presented a CE on legislative updates.

“It was a great meeting, with interesting presentations, good networking opportunities and a chance for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to earn four continuing education credits,” says Requelman, who was co-chair of the HPhA programs committee that helped plan the event.
