DKICP Associate Professor Cherie Chu takes a moment to pose with the audience of high school students after her presentation.

High school students attending the recent Hawaii state HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) conference in Honolulu got to sit in on a variety of career workshops, including one presented by DKICP Associate Professor Cherie Chu. Her presentation, titled Critical Care and Emergency Medicine Pharmacists, drew a packed room of interested young people.

“I talked about a typical day in the life of a critical care and emergency medicine pharmacist,” says Chu, “and provided reasons to pick pharmacy as a career. I also provided information about the DKICP program and prerequisites, discussed why I went into pharmacy, what made me choose this career path, and why I chose critical care and emergency medicine as my practice areas.”

She also fielded questions from students about the pharmacy program, opportunities for shadowing a pharmacist and educational costs and financial return.
