DKICP students, staff and faculty at the Health and Science Fair
The Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP) welcomed over 200 adults and 100 keiki to its annual Health and Science Fair. This year’s Halloween themed event provided something for the whole family including a pumpkin patch, food trucks, and the University of Hawaii at Hilo (UH Hilo) Vulcan athletes to greet the community. Keiki, young and old, enjoyed compounding slime with DKICP pharmacy students, and controlling robots with volunteers from the Hawaii Science and Technology Museum.
DKICP pharmacy students completed health screenings for over 50 participants, assessing blood pressure, blood glucose, and body mass index. KTA provided vaccinations on site, while SHIP assisted kupuna with identifying the Medicare plans that best suited their individual needs. The pharmacy students also met their target goal of 50 donor swabs for the Earl Young’s Team Swab Drive.
Other vendors participating in the event included:
- UH Hilo Department of Kinesiology
- Hawaii Keiki
- Hawaii Fire Department
- Ohana Health
- United Healthcare
- Salvation Army
- Kumukahi Health
- Big Island Climbing
“It was great to see the community come together for this event,” said Christina Requelman, student support specialist at the DKICP, who spearheaded the event. “Each year, the event has grown and we look forward to hosting it again next year.”
