University Bids Farewell to Two Long-time College of Pharmacy Faculty

Ghee Tan, PhD Dr. Ghee Tan, professor of pharmaceutical sciences, retired this Fall after serving as an inaugural faculty member at the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP). Her research has focused on the biological and biochemical actions of chemicals derived from natural products. While at the DKICP, Tan has been an active contributor of the PhD Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and also served as its director since 2014.
Tan’s contributions to the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program were many, and highlighted by her leadership as the course coordinator and instructor for biochemistry for all pharmacy students since the program started in 2007. She has also played an instrumental role as chair of the Student Progression and Graduation Committee for many years.
“Dr. Ghee Tan has been a valued faculty member of the department and leader in graduate education.” said Dr. Dianqing Sun, former department chair of pharmaceutical sciences. “Her legacy is most evident in the success of her former students, and we wish her the best during her retirement.”
Supakit Wongwiwatthananukit, PharmD, PhD Dr. Supakit Wongwiwatthananukit, professor of pharmacy practice, joined the DKICP in 2008 and returned to his home country of Thailand after 17 years with the university. During his time with the DKICP, Wongwiwatthananukit served in a variety of leadership roles including interim associate dean for academic affairs and faculty advisor for the Delta Iota Chapter of the Rho Chi Society, the academic honor society for pharmacy.
Wongwiwatthananukit’s research included translational collaborations on a range of topics related to natural products and pharmacy education. Over the years, he has coordinated courses and taught topics related to evidence-based medicine, research, and literature review.
Students fondly remember Wongwiwatthananukit for his accessibility and commitment to supporting excellence. “I remember Dr. Supakit as a faculty member when I was a student at the DKICP,” said Dr. Nicole Young, department chair of pharmacy practice. “Many graduates and pharmacy students will also remember how he helped shape their future.”
