DKICP Faculty Celebrated with Excellence in Teaching Awards

Students in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP) recognized three outstanding faculty for their teaching excellence at the 2025 Spring Awards Ceremony. Each class in the first, second and third year of the pharmacy program selected one faculty in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and one faculty in the Department of Pharmacy Practice to be recognized with an Excellence in Teaching Award.

Dr. Dianqing Sun was honored with an Excellence in Teaching Award for Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Class of 2026, Class of 2027, and Class of 2028. Dr. Sun teaches topics related to medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutics. He is known for being caring and student-centered. Dr. Sun also serves as chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Dr. Bryce Fukunaga was honored with an Excellence in Teaching Award for Pharmacy Practice from the Class of 2027 and Class of 2028. Dr. Fukunaga teaches topics related to self-care and therapeutic problem solving. He is appreciated for being adept at explaining application of concepts to practice, and for his calm demeanor. Dr. Fukunaga additionally serves as chair of the DKICP Curriculum Committee.

Dr. Jarred Prudencio was honored with an Excellence in Teaching Award for Pharmacy Practice from the Class of 2026. Dr. Prudencio teaches topics related to ambulatory care, which include many common diseases that are treated in outpatient settings. Students like his case-based teaching style. In addition to educating students in the classroom, Dr. Prudencio serves as the Director of Experiential Education.

“DKICP is fortunate to have numerous faculty who excel as teachers in the classroom while also providing strong leadership for curricular excellence in our PharmD program,” said Dr. Lara Gomez, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. The Doctor of Pharmacy program spans four years, and graduates are eligible for licensure as practicing pharmacists.
