This course is designed to introduce students to the definition, history, origin and transmission of zoonoses; commonly encountered zoonotic diseases as well as those commonly encountered in Hawaii. Covered are bacterial, tick-borne bacterial, fungal, parasitic, viral and prion zoonoses. Emphasis will be made on those that are life-threatening to humans, for example, leptospirosis, rabies, transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, etc.
