This course serves as an introduction to pharmacy practice. The multi-cultural State of Hawaiʻi will serve as a practical laboratory for students to begin practicing the skills necessary to provide and communicate pharmaceutical care. This course is designed to introduce student pharmacists to the skills needed to communicate effectively with patients and the interprofessional skills needed to communicate with other healthcare providers and professionals.

The course is also designed to enhance student confidence in public speaking. The culture component of the course is designed to introduce student pharmacists to the skills needed to communicate effectively with patients and other healthcare providers, and understanding the impact of cultural diversity. In-class exercises will facilitate cultural self-awareness, disparities in healthcare, exploration of cultural diversity, and methods to apply communication skills in practice.
