This course will provide students with a better understanding of the role that genetic variation plays in disease susceptibility at both the individual and population levels. Genetic variation of human hosts and parasites will be covered with an emphasis on co-evolution. Drug action and mechanisms of drug resistance will be explored. The contemporary role of molecular genetic techniques in the detection of genetic variation, with applications toward vaccine development, will also be covered.
