This course will draw on the basic principles of drug design, development and drug action (medicinal chemistry and pharmacology) to provide an introduction to the basics of the pharmaceutical sciences. Topics covered include: drug discovery, pharmacogenetics, architecture of drugs, ADME, structural changes during drug metabolism, chemical mutagenesis, carcinogenesis, teratogenesis, drug-drug interaction, drug allergy, drug resistance, tolerance and dependence.
