Carolyn Ma, Pharm.D., B.C.O.P.
Carolyn Ma received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the U. of California at San Francisco and completed a Clinical Pharmacy Residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and an Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Residency at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Ma practiced as the first oncology clinical pharmacy specialist at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu and is Board Certified in Oncology Pharmacy Practice. She went on to work as Vice President for Clinical Program Development for AmMed International in Hong Kong, China. Prior to her joining the college, she was a pharmacy and hospital management consultant for various hospitals including Stanford Hospitals and Clinics with expertise in The Joint Commission’s Medication Management Chapter, pharmacy and clinic workflow redesign and organizational development. Her areas of interest include pharmacy and Interprofessional education and academia, Experiential learning, Human Papilloma Virus vaccination and Health Care Policy and legislation. In 2007, Dr. Ma returned home to Hawai’i to join the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy as the Clinical Education Coordinator and Director of Experientials. In 2009 she became the Chair for Pharmacy Practice, in 2015 she was named the interim Dean and permanent Dean in 2016. Her work with key Hawai’i partners outside of the college includes serving on the Boards of the Hawaii State Board of Pharmacy and the Hawaii Pharmacists Association. She is the contributing editor for the DKICP’s column Scripts, with the Hawaii Journal of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Ma is the recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia, the lifetime service achievement award.
