Mark P. Okamoto, Pharm.D.

Professor & Chair

Dr. Okamoto received a BS degree in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles and his Pharm.D. from the University of Southern California. He completed a one-year residency in general medicine followed by two fellowships in pharmacokinetics and pharmacoeconomics of infectious diseases over the next 3 years. He is licensed as a pharmacist in California and Nevada. Prior to joining the UHH-CoP, he served as a Clinical Pharmaceutical Scientist at Kaiser Permanente and was Corporate Director of Clinical Affairs for PHI Healthcare. He then joined Western University of Health Sciences ultimately becoming the Associate Dean for Assessment & Teaching Effectiveness and Chair of Social and Administrative Sciences. He serves on editorial boards of two scientific journals and as a peer-reviewer for a number of others. He has authored numerous publications in the areas of pharmacokinetics, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology and outcomes assessment and has been awarded numerous grants in those areas. His expertise in assessment and evaluation of teaching effectiveness will be especially important in the development of the UHH-CoP, as well as his leadership as the head of Pharmacy Practice in helping to develop the clinical curriculum and the experiential program.
