Robert Summer, R.Ph.
Director of Pharmacy Innovation and Facility
Mr. Robert Summers, Director of Pharmacy Innovation and Facility
Planning, will be responsible for facilities and also strengthening the
College of Pharmacy relationship with the community. Mr. Summers comes
to Hilo from assignments in California and the Midwest where he was a
Strategic Market Director for Johnson and Johnson, and grew J&J revenue
through strong relationships with key customers. He received his
bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas and is a
licensed pharmacist in Missouri and Kansas. Mr. Summers practiced as a
Clinical Pharmacist in a hospital setting for six years before moving to
the business side of pharmacy and is now completing an MBA in Healthcare
Management. During his 20+ year career Mr. Summers has developed
expertise in Managed Care strategy, Marketing, Mergers & Acquisitions
and New Product Development. He was also responsible for facilities
management for a division of Eli Lilly & Company. He has a long history
of cultivating relationships with providers, hospitals and community
organizations with a focus of achieving long term strategic alliances
based on mutual respect and understanding. He brings a culturally
sensitive approach to community issues, and has demonstrated commitment
to Hawaii as evidenced by his more than four years of responsibility for
the J&J corporate relationship with HMSA.
