Gary R. Ten Eyck, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Gary R. Ten Eyck examines the neuroendocrinology of reproductive behaviors, particularly territoriality and paternal care, and communication utilizing neuropharmacological approaches. His lab also studies the evolutionary significance of direct development; particularly sensory systems. These investigations use the Puerto Rican coquí frog (Eleutherodactylus coqui). This amphibian differs from the "conventional" frog because it undergoes direct development, as oppose to metamorphosis, and exhibits paternal care. Investigations on reproductive behaviors, communication, and developmental biology are significant since the Puerto Rican coquí was recently introduced on the Island of Hawai‘i and its widespread distribution is a major environmental and economical concern.
